Kabi Nazrul College, established in 1985 and affiliated to the University of Burdwan is located in a socio-economically backward Murarai constituency in Birbhum district of West Bengal, India. This college, being the sole institute of higher education in the said constituency, has been playing since its very inception, the catalytic role in the educational, socio-economic and cultural development of the area which is mostly populated by the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class of people.
History of Kabi Nazrul College: Murarai is situated near Jharkhand on the northern border of Birbhum district. Historically it is a socially and economically backward area. Local legislator Mr. Bazle Ahmed was the first to take the initiative to establish an institution of higher education in his assembly area. As a consequence of his thought, the college came into being. On July 2, 1970 the State Minister for Public Works, Smt. Pratibha Mukherjee laid the foundation stone of Kabi Nazrul College. However, it was Dr. Motahar Hossain, who was the key person responsible for the making the dream a reality. On 13 September 1985, Kabi Nazrul College (Degree) was established and the College got approval from Burdwan University in the year.
